Both are awesome lightweight tents- light enough to be used by ultralighters, but durable enough for lightweight backpackers and car camping, even for folks with little kids, like me. The SL3 nest and shelter are both really easy to set up- unstuff it, lay it flat, stake it out, add the pole, toss the tarp over the top and hook them into the same stakes. The shelter/tarp by itself takes more time to get it all lined up right, if you're not using the standard floor or standard nest, but still very straight forward. I've had the SL3 for a year now, and it's done well on 4 backpacking trips and a dozen car camping trips. The SL3 Nest is more of a two or two and a half person tent if you're using the center pole- plenty of room for me, my wife, our two year old, and all of our gear.
