A review of my latest DIY project: A homemade backpack for ultra lightweight to super ultralight backpacking trips. Since developing an interest in ultralight backpacking, I've found that one of the challenges inherent to the sport is acquiring the gear necessary for this pursuit. Of course you can spend hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of dollars to get the gear that fits your needs, but I've found that the best way to keep costs low, as well as get a perfectly customized piece of equipment, is to make it yourself. So after putting much thought and research into exactly what I wanted in a UL backpack, I fired up the old sewing machine and went to work. Here is what I came up with... Homemade Ultralight Backpack: Concept: • Custom, durable, and lightweight pack for use in conjunction with SUL gear system. • 3 season use with multi-day, long distance capabilities. • Partially inspired by the GoLite Breeze, the Gossamer Gear G4, and my own specific needs.
